Welcome to Gentle Dharma.
I’m new to the Middle Way. I’m stumbling between awareness and oblivion every day. Little by little I awaken to one small thing after another. As I see them, I would like to share them, and I hope through this journal of my path that we can encourage and support each other in compassion and lovingkindness.
Thanks for visiting.
Why, after leaving Christianity, did you choose Buddhism?
Hey, 2tall – A lot of the answer to that comes late in my post on doubting at WINLB – http://winlb.wordpress.com/2011/10/23/the-line-between-hot-and-cold/
Cheers 🙂
Hi 🙂 The short answer is that I find Buddhism to be, at its core, a very reasonable philosophy. You don’t have to believe in some sort of unseeable woo. You get to test its tenets empirically, and if you differ from most other Buddhists, its no big deal. It’s not about winning converts, it’s about seeing life exactly as it is and living in the moment, not trapped by the patterns of the past nor by the worries of the future.
It was actually practicing Zen in dealing with my anger issues (something Jesus had never been able to solve for me) that led me to question everything and finally face the mounting doubts that had been building up for years. Eventually I’ll tell the whole story.
Funny thing is, I’ve got a draft going of a post where I ask your exact question – so stay tuned for a longer answer 🙂 Thanks for dropping by here too 🙂
